Lorry driver caught shaving at the wheel

A lorry driver faces prosecution after he was caught shaving at the wheel.

''Many of the people stopped agreed with the police action and were very embarrassed having been caught on their phones.''

The motorist is one of 200 who face similar action after they were stopped by undercover police officers who were in a lorry cab in Hampshire, southern England, when they noticed several driving while distracted, including one who was brushing his teeth with one hand, and had a bottle of water and a razor in the other.

One female driver was using Facebook on the road and another was using his laptop.

Sergeant Paul Dimond, who coordinated the operation, said: ''Distracted driving is proven to be a significant factor in many of the collisions on our roads.

''Although the focus of the operation was on distraction offences we acted on any offences seen by the lorry as well as any seen by the marked patrol cars in support.

''Many of the people stopped agreed with the police action and were very embarrassed having been caught on their phones.''
