Scarlett Moffatt once told her friends and family she was "working away", but she spent the whole week in bed feeling "so sad" as a result of vicious trolling.

The former 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' winner has admitted one day her body simply froze as she walked out of the door and she returned to her bed for seven days because she was worried about telling her friends and family about how she was feeling.

She said: "I remember one day going to walk out of the house, getting to the front door and sort of freezing.

"It was as if my body just wouldn't let me open the door.

"I actually pretended to my family and friends that I was working away, and I wasn't.

"For the whole week I was in bed.

"I remember thinking, 'I don't want to speak to my mum and dad because then they'll worry.

"'I don't want to be a burden, and my friends are so proud of us and think I'm living the dream,' so I was just so sad."

Fortunately, Scarlett turned to the Samaritans, a charity which provides emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.

After calling them "a few times" and hanging up quickly, she eventually engaged in a conversation with a volunteer about how she was feeling, and she called herself Charlotte Muffin to remain anonymous.

Speaking on 'Lorraine', Scarlett - who is now a Samaritans ambassador - added: "I remember giving a fake name, I said my name was Charlotte Muffin.

"I don't know why I said Charlotte Muffin, but I just remember thinking, 'Wow.' I could feel my troubles melt away.

"It was just to block out all of the noise and to have a safe space, where I could rant about how I was feeling.

"From there I got the courage to speak to my family and then a GP."

Despite being on the receiving end of "horrific" trolling, the former 'Gogglebox' star has admitted she always direct messages her haters and sends them the Samaritans' phone number - and "99 per cent of the time" they apologise for their comments and say they will call the helpline.

Speaking earlier this week, she said: "I've never been in a place where I've wanted to project that much hate onto someone.

"So whenever I do get trolled really badly I send them a private message and I'll give them the number for Samaritans.

"I'll say, 'Are you OK? Call this number if you need help.'

"And I would say 99 per cent of the time, they apologise and say, 'Yeah, I will.' "
