Katy Manning is in hospital with an eye injury.
The former 'Doctor Who' star - who played companion Jo Grant in 1971 - was taken to hospital after her eye became swollen following a suspected infection, but doctors revealed she had a scratched eyeball.
Before being admitted to hospital, Katy tweeted: "i have to laugh as this is how , plus add a pair of thick glasses so one eye can see i have to go to chemist for infected eyes drops ! my eyes are weak so i get many infections & know how to deal with them but this look i don't think will ever catch on (sic)"
However, the 73-year-old actress soon had to stop tweeting as the phone light became too bright for her weak eyes, and she allowed her goddaughter to give updates to her fans.
She wrote: "Hello, Katy's god daughter here. Thank you so much for all of your kind messages! She hasn't been able to read them as the pain is too bad and with only one, partially working eye, can't look at the phone screen, or anything bright. She really misses you all so much and knows that she's missing birthdays and lots of special cuddles."
Her goddaughter also revealed that Katy was waiting for more test results after visiting two different hospitals to get a diagnosis for her injury.
She continued: "We're hoping that the second test results will be through on Monday when she is being referred to a new specialist."
After receiving the results, she added: "Goddaughter here again - v v v long painful day at 2 different eye hospitals for Miss Katy. Good news is we have a diagnosis and have started treatment already. Bad news is it'll be months and months of meds for the naughty eye! (sic)
But Katy and her family are optimistic she will recover soon and will be back on Twitter before they know it.
She tweeted: "Of course, Katy will be back long before then but it will certainly be a few weeks before she's back to tweeting and anything but lying in a darkened room with the radio and a slice of cake to keep her going. I will try and keep you updated as much as possible but really she just needs some rest for the moment"
