Amelie Bea Smith kept her 'Peppa Pig' role a secret from her 'Call The Midwife' co-stars.
The 10-year-old actress is set to appear in the next series of the BBC period drama as Deborah Packer, the daughter of a paraplegic patient under the care of the team at Nonnatus House.
Megan Cusack - who plays Nurse Nancy Corrigan - told the Daily Star newspaper's Hot TV column: "A big highlight of the series was meeting Amelie.
"She did not let on once - and if she had left the set and I had not found this out, I would have been absolutely fuming - but she voices Peppa Pig.
"I was completely starstruck! At one point, she did the jumping in puddles. It was incredible I did go home on a high. I was like, 'I've met Peppa Pig!' "
It's said Amelie kept quiet about her previous role until one of the cast figured it out.
She's set to appear in the 11th series of the show, which is due to air from January.
Fans have been warned the upcoming season comes with a devastating twist, and writer Heidi Thomas admitted even she "couldn't quite believe" her idea.
She told The Sun newspaper's Biz TV column: "Nonnatus has been under threat many, many times, but it's always been the brick and mortar.
"And this time it's the people who are in peril. But when I realised what was coming out of my head and my hands on to the computer screen, I couldn't quite believe it."
Meanwhile, she added that she's surprised the show - which will return with a festive special on Christmas Day (25.12.21) - has been on air for over a decade.
Reflecting on its longevity, she said: "The secret of success - I think it's sincerity, we meant it, we don't sit down to create an engine or a Leviathan that is shown in more than 200 countries around the wor.d
"We care about our stories. We care about the people in them. And we mean it."
