It’s been three long months for former INXS front man Jon Stevens after her underwent major heart surgery but he’s finally getting back onstage.

The New Zealand-born rocker spent 12 weeks recovering from the life-saving operation and returned to performing live on Friday night in Melbourne, Australia.

Stevens reveals doctors told him he needed the three months to let his body adjust after the invasive surgery, carried out after they discovered one of the four arteries in his heart was 99 per cent blocked.

Friday night's show was the first possible date medics would allow Stevens to return to the stage.

He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "I had no idea whether I had the energy to even sing or not, but the power of music, man, it just makes you feel so good. The first gig on Friday night was the tester, my body was a bit sore the next day, but I sang fine.

"I am just really thankful to still be on the planet. I am really grateful and am just enjoying everything."
