As a Zack Snyder fan, it’s awesome to see the filmmaker back in prime positioning following the successful campaign to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut of DC Extended Universe project, Justice League.
Now, he’s returned to the director’s chair for an upcoming Netflix original film, called Army of the Dead.
Zombie movies are a dime-a-dozen, so it’s going to be interesting to see just how Snyder’s terrific mind turns the genre on its head, breathing new life - pun intended - into a vein of cinema that has been wildly overused - and indeed misused - throughout the past few decades.
We got our first taste of what to expect from the May release in a trailer that dropped today, which promised bombastic action from its A-list roster of stars.

With Las Vegas in ruins and separated completely from the rest of the world following a zombie outbreak, those who survived now live as normal a life as they can.
When zombie war hero Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) however, he’s offered an opportunity he simply cannot resist. Putting his burger-flipping days on hold, he takes the challenge of infiltrating the quarantine zone to claim $200 million, kept in a vault that is overrun by the living dead.
With just 32 hours until Las Vegas will be nuked by the government, he faces a race against time and so assembles a ragtag team of experts for the heist. Joining him are mechanic Maria Cruz (Ana de la Reguera); the casino’s former Head of Security Martin (Garret Dillahunt); zombie-killing machine Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick); a warrior known as the Coyote (Nora Arnezeder); slimy security guard Burt Cummings (Theo Rossi); German safe cracker Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer); cynical helicopter pilot Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro); go-for-broke influencer Mikey Guzman (Raúl Castillo) and; Chambers (Samantha Win), his ride-or-die.
Ward faces an unexpected emotional hurdle however, when his estranged daughter Kate (Ella Purnell) joins the mission, searching for a mother (Huma Qureshi) who has gone missing inside the city.
With Alpha zombies now proving to be smarter and faster than anything Ward has faced before, it's clear that not everybody is going to get out of this mission alive…
Oh, and yes: there’s a “goddamn zombie tiger”.
Army of the Dead comes to Netflix on May 21st, 2021.
