Steven Spielberg cannot believe that Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark is celebrating it's 30th anniversary.

The movie saw Harrison Ford take on the role of Jones for the very first time - resulting in two successful franchises.

Spielberg and co returned to the Indiana Jones franchise in 2008 with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - which went on to be the most successful in the series.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the filmmaker said: "It's really startling.

"Number one, it seems like it was only five years ago, it does not seem like 30 years ago. And the other great thing is I'm still close to everybody that made the movie."

"I love how that Raiders family has stayed together for 30 years. We're all still the closest of friends."

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the last time that we saw Spielberg in the director's chair but he has a series of movies on the horizon.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn will hit cinemas this year while War Horse is currently in post production.
