Drew Barrymore has revealed that her new directing project with not be a romantic comedy.

The actress is going back behind the camera for How To Be Single and insists that the more 'universal' style will not put off a male audience.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly the actress said: "It's hopefully, in a lot of ways, not a romantic comedy."

"People have this weird stigma [with] that word - it's a turn-off to guys or whatever.

"But I think we've honed in on a style that will be more universal, a little bit ageless and not gender specific."

Barrymore made her directorial debut back in 2009 with Whip It and has teamed up with script writers Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn.

Speaking about the new movie she said: "This has a very wide palette that I really really like.

"I'm so interested in so many different types of people and lifestyles that there is kind of a lovely mosaic, like a little bit for everybody."
