A Cloverfield sequel is still a top priority for filmmaker Matt Reeves.

Matt Reeves was the director of the J.J. Abrams produced movie back in 2008, a movie that went on to gross over $170 million at the global box office.

There has been talk of a sequel for many months and Reeves, who is expected to return to direct says that it remains a priority for both he and Abrams.

Speaking to MTV the filmmaker said: "It really isn't the moment for [the sequel] to go any further than it has, but it continues to be a priority for both of us.

"J.J. is very immersed in putting together Super 8. He's in pre-production and really, really passionately getting that together. And I'm passionately finishing Let Me In."

However Reeves denied that Abrams' new project Super 8 is the Cloverfield sequel.

"Super 8 is not the Cloverfield sequel," he commented. "There literally is no connection whatsoever [between Super 8 and Cloverfield].

"It's just a really cool idea for a film. I know what [J.J. is] doing and it's amazing."

Let Me In, the new movie for Reeves, is an American adaptation of the Swedish movie Let The Right One in which was released last year.
