Velma Dinkley

Velma Dinkley

We've already covered her famous pal Daphne Blake as a style icon, so now we think it's high time to honour this lovely lady for her geeky chic style.

Whereas Daphne's style is very girly and fun, Velma was more famous for her brain as opposed to her fashion choices on the hit TV show, Scooby Doo.

Her outfit for the entire series consisted of a red skirt, orange jumper and a pair of mustard knee length socks. Paired together with a bowl haircut and freckles, it's easy to see why she was originally overlooked for Daphne.

But we think her style deserves to be celebrated, because it was the epitome of 60s cool and we all love a bit of retro fashion. Also knee-high socks are back in style, so Velma seriously has the edge on starting that trend.

We also think she's one of the few cartoon characters to wear glasses and still look very cute, and of course she created the adorable catchphrases "Jinkies!" and "My Glasses! I can't see without my glasses!" around them.

Linda Cardellini portrayed Velma in the big screen adaptation of Scooby Doo and we have to say, she nailed Velma's look to a tee. Unlike Sarah Michelle Geller's version of Daphne, which came across as all wrong for our gorgeous 60s sweetheart.

They updated her look a tiny bit for the movie, giving her a shirt to wear as opposed to a jumper, but the essential essence of Velma's was retained, which we very very happy about.

We covered the Geek Chic look a while ago as a trend to watch, and with Velma proclaimed our latest style icon, we think she'll be a great fashion inspiration for the year ahead.
