Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet

It's the fashion event of the year and last night the stars came out in force to show off their Hollywood style, as the LA spotlight shone firmly on The Oscars.

Kate Winslet finally picked up the Best Actress gong, after being nominated a record six times, but who cares about that?! All the fashion pack wanted to know was who and what she would be wearing!

Did she disappoint? did she heck! British Kate looked stunning in her one shoulder wonder, which was understated and elegant, so a lot like Kate herself really.

Her signature colours of late have been grey, black and blue, which she stuck to on the night, opting for a pewter, shiny coloured gown with black netting detail down one side of the dress.

We're not going to say it was Kate's best look to date, but it was definitely Oscar worthy and the cut and style was a bit of a departure from Kate's clingy styles she has been sporting of late.

We particularly loved the elegant hair-do folded under and the simple make-up she opted for, which let the dress do all the talking. She completed the look with a black clutch, dangly diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet.

Best Actress nominee Anne Hathaway also looked to-die-for in her sparkly strapless gown. It was a safe choice, some might say but there was no denying the young actress held her own against other Hollywood heavyweights.

We loved the hem detail on the bottom half of the dress, which looked almost like a oyster coloured mermaid's tail. The beaded panelling on the bust and waist was a nice edition to the dress, and Anne kept it simple with the accessories by just adding a bracelet and ring to complete the look.

It was also a nice change to see Anne pick a dress, which clung to her curves and gave her a fuller figure, as opposed to the skeletal pictures of Anne we've been saying of late. Full marks Ms. Hathaway, you may not have won anything on the night, but we loved your look on the red carpet.

Evan Rachel Wood was also a vision in a nude coloured gown, with corseted panelling not dissimilar to Herve Leger's famous design. We loved Evan's take on the look, keeping it simple and chic by adding just a black clutch to accessorise the dress.

The gown clung to all the right places, while her hair was well styled and had a touch of old Hollywood glamour about it. We particularly love that 21-year-old Evan kept her young grungy roots by painting her nails black to contrast with smart and elegant cut of the dress.

Nude or white seemed to be the colour of choice for most of the females at the star studded bash, with very few opting for colour.

Jennifer Aniston totally won the style battle against Angelina Jolie, in case you were wondering and managed to tick every one of our fashion boxes.

Her strapless gold and white beaded gown was a work of art and her simple plaited hair was gorgeous, compared to Angelina's boring black dress, complete with an 80s quiff up-do.

Other style winners included Natalie Portman, who looked stunning in a pink strapless gown and Vanessa Hudgens in her black vintage gown, complete with corsage flower detailing on the bust.

A special mention must go to Penelope Cruz, who wowed in her vintage Balmain gown. The only reason she missed out on a place in our exclusive list is because she looked a tad like she was getting married and could have easily been mistaken for a bride. Not cool, Pen.
