Michelle Obama's daughters are following in her stylish footsteps

Barack Obama's daughters Malia and Sasha Obama are the latest members of the family to take the fashion world by storm, as influences on teen and tween shoppers.

Their father and mother Barack and Michelle Obama have recently hit the headlines for their great style but it is now the girls getting the attention.

American parents are now rushing to buy their daughters outfits worn by the future First Daughters, particularly the black Gerson & Gerson dress worn by Sasha on election night.

Kevin Gray, sales manager for Gerson & Gerson told the New York Post: "We've sold hundreds since election night."

The dress was formerly known as the "crystal pleat social dress" but is now labelled the "Sasha" after the 7 year old.

Sasha's first day at school has also gained attention. The Primp peace sign hoodie has sold out in department store Bloomingdales.

Their style is influencing celebrities children as TV presenter Kelly Ripa admitted her 8 year old daughter is obsesses with the sisters and wants to be just like them, down to their clothing.

Pilar Guzman, Editor-in-Chief of Cookie magazine claimed that the mix of designer and affordable pieces makes the girls' style so popular.

She told the paper: "They're very chic, but there's nothing obnoxious about it. It's high style, but there's enough of a mix that it's OK."
