Lily Allen

Lily Allen

One star-studded, 'red carpet' job in the public eye would be more than a dream come true for most women but it seems that a lot of popular musicians are striving for more. The latest trend for singers seems to be finding a route into the world of fashion design.

In 2009 we have seen the likes of ‘punk rocker’ Avril Lavigne and ‘The Gossip’ vocalist Beth Ditto designing clothes for teenagers and larger ladies. Oh and how can we forget Lindsay Lohan’s project with Ungaro?!

There have been both successes and horror stories to date but the question is, which celebrity clothing lines should we be looking out for in 2010?

British singer Lily Allen launched her floral girly clothing line for New Look back in 2007 and since then she has also had success with a jewellery line. If you are a fan of fruit, animals or flowers the motif necklaces will be your cup of tea.

Lily has no plans to stop now, she has announced plans to take a break from the music industry to focus on her passion for fashion. This will come as huge disappointment to any Lily fans excitedly awaiting the next album or hoping to see her on tour but it will be great news for any women who have always wanted to splash out on a posh dress for a special occasion but could never bring themselves to hand over the credit card.

Teaming up with her sister, Lily will open a rental fashion store with the purpose of renting out nice expensive clothes at affordable prices. The store, set to open early next year, will apparently be called “Lucy In Disguise.”

Lily is not the only songstress interested in the fashion industry. Teenage Pop Princess Pixie Lott’s soulful vocals have only been blaring out of our iPods for six months however she has already revealed to InStyle ambitions to get more involved with fashion and films.

The fashionista’s on trend image has been gracing the ‘what’s hot’ pages since she was thrust into the spotlight and time will only tell whether 2010 will see Pixie create a line that emulates her laid-back feminine style. Her massive fan base will surely snap up the goods if they make it onto our fashion rails.

If Pixie does pave her way into the fashion world it looks like she will have a lot of competition. Although circulating rumours suggesting that X Factor prodigy Leona Lewis will launch a clothing line under the guidance of fashion designer Stella McCartney have been denied, the idea of an animal friendly fashion range sounded like a smart idea.

It would have been interesting to see how Leona’s simple yet sophisticated style, perfectly suited for the ‘girl next door’ look, would have been received.

A ‘Leona’ line may not be on the horizon just yet but according to reports, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga and Disney starlet Selena Gomez are ones to watch this year.

Lady Gaga successfully carries off imaginative and somewhat wacky outfits both on and off stage and although many women will be wondering how on earth they could pull off a Kermit the frog or teapot dress, it is not out of the question and it looks like you could be given the chance to try it soon.

Using Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus for inspiration, Selena Gomez will launch ‘Dream Out Loud’ in 2010. The line will be perfect for teenage girls as it consists of pretty floral patterns and feminine dresses.

Also, watch out for ‘Gossip Girl’ Michelle Trachtenberg who is set to launch a jewellery line soon.

The list of fashion-hungry celebs appears to be never ending and it probably is. As one line is removed from the shelves another one is added and more and more celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon.

Given the chance, most women would love the opportunity to design their own fashion line so maybe there is a hint of jealousy because as nurses, shop assistants and journalists, being given the option to sketch down creative clothing ideas is highly unlikely.

At this rate there will be no jobs left for fashion designers who have been educated in order to lead a successful career in the industry, let alone room for us too!
