Florence Welch

Florence Welch

We love it when the world of fashion and music collide to throw up a new style icon, and this is certainly true of Florence Welch and her interesting band name, Florence and the Machine.

Having won the Critics' Choice Award at The BRIT Awards 2009 with MasterCard back in December, she is all set to collect the award on stage, when the BRITs take place on February 18.

Described as a mix of indie and soul, Florence and the Machine have been a firm favourite with the critics for a while now, and by next month we're assuming everyone else will be a fan too.

Eclectic musicians often have an off-the-wall and unique style all of their own, and that's why we picked up on the lovely Florence, who seems to be a huge fan of all things vintage.

Teaming a cropped checked shirt with jeans and then pulling white socks up to her knees may seem a little odd, but she managed to be hailed as fashion forward, with the addition of a pair of black patent pumps.

Her love of oversized glasses, over the knee socks and sequined hot pants may been something we've all seen before, but have we seen it in this country?

Lady GaGa is currently riding high in the UK charts, partly down to her OTT dress sense and Florence could well be following suit with her look starting to get noticed.

We particularly love her dressing up as a cross between the Michelin man and a superhero for a promotional photo for the band; clearly this lady is game for a laugh and has fun with her look.

The fashion pack are constantly on the lookout for new and stylish talent, as are designers who want to bag 'the next big thing'. If Florence and the machine make it big in the next few years, we could see Florence and her style constantly making the style pages.
