Jennifer Metcalfe

Jennifer Metcalfe

The British Soap Awards are like the soap version of the Oscars, so of course the stars all came out to shine on the red carpet on Saturday night.

Unfortunately for every good outfit on display there were twenty bad ones, and we were left to ponder the age old question- how could they all get is so wrong!?

Some of the worst fashion blunders came from the people we'd least expect, but then there were those who got it bang on target, and showed up looking horrendously bad.

We know it's the soap awards, but is it really necessary to come in character- especially when you play someone as chavtastic as Mercedes on Hollyoaks?

Yes, our first offender of the night was Jennifer Metcalfe, who rocked up to the event in a floor-length, skin-tight Aztec creation.

Now, in theory this dress shouldn't really work on anyone, and that includes on the catwalk, and Jen proved how a bad dress can make you look larger than you actually are.

Jennifer is famous for her curvy figure and big bum and this dress just doesn't celebrate her curves properly, not to mention that her hair and make-up age her by about ten years too.

The bouffant backcomb, loose strands and curls just don't work here and the two-tone lipstick stands out a mile against the orangey-grey colour of the dress, but at least she didn't go OTT on the fake tan like she has done in the past.

Someone who could have used some advice on tanning was Brooke Vincent, who showed up at the awards looking like she had been dipped in ronseal.

Now, to be fair we wholeheartedly sympathise with Brooke, as when we were teens we all went overboard on the tan and ended up looking like Satsumas, on more than one occasion.

We may of let her off with a style warning if this had been her only offence, but since her dress was something of a letdown too, we have no choice but to issue her with a formal fashion crime.

Her ill-fitting toga style dress just swamped her tiny frame and the hideous ankle shoes looked like they were from a bad period in the 80s.

Some dainty strappy sandals would have looked much better on the night, but she'd struggle to match them to anything since her belt and bag were completely different colours.

Now, we're all for a bit of colour clashing on occasion, and while we quite like the gold belt, the quilted purple clutch just seems like an afterthought, which doesn't go with anything and looks so out of place.

Then there's her hair, which looks like how Sophie (her character on Corrie) would style it, and doesn't seem to have anything fun and fresh about it, considering Brooke is supposed to be a style-savvy teen.

Some other style offenders on the night included two more fashion crimes from the ladies of Hollyoaks, with Jorgie Porter looking like she was getting married in her ill-fitting creation, while Loui Batley was swamped in her dismal grey frilly frock too.

Finally, we have to mention the lovely Barbara Windsor who got it so wrong, we have to give her credit for stepping out in it in the first place.

The purple and pink combo combined with leopard print really wasn't a wise style move, but other than that, she looked fab with her signature beehived hairdo and slinky figure on the night.
