Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin must be relishing her new position as a style icon, after her inauguration hat continues to generate huge amounts of fashion buzz.

Having just gone on display at the Smithsonian last week, milliner Luke Song is still being inundated with requests for copies of the fabulous hat.

She's also agreed for said hat to move to the White House no less, and go on permanent display in Mr. Obama’s presidential library; now that really is the highest form of praise, don't you think?!

We don't like to play favourites or anything, but Aretha's funky bow hat has totally eclipsed Michelle Obama's Wu gown in our eyes, which is no mean feat, we're sure you'll agree.

While Michelle is being hailed as a style icon the world over, the fabulous Ms Franklin and her hat are quietly gaining momentum on the fashion circuit and we couldn't be happier.

Those wanting to replicate Aretha's look won't be able to manage it entirely however, as Mr Song has decided not to replicate the hat completely, merely offering the spring version of the 'Aretha' hat instead.

At 66 she is one of the oldest style icon's we've featured, but when you make a statement like that, then you arguably deserve to be given this status.

She's rightly famous for her amazing soul voice and musical achievements, but perhaps this is a new career option she could explore in the future- the face of amazing hats!

Lets be honest, hats aren't as popular as they used to be and Aretha could easily bring old world glamour back to the surface, with a range of extravagant headwear.

Something for you to consider Ms. Franklin, as we continue to be amazed by THAT hat and the reaction it has had worldwide. We officially have a new style crush...
