Kristin Cavallari is “discouraging” her kids from appearing on TV until they’re 18.
The 33-year-old has been appearing in reality television shows since she starred in MTV’s ‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’ when she was just 17, before appearing in ‘The Hills’, and later landing her own reality show, ‘Very Cavallari’.
But despite her own career in television beginning when she was a teenager, Kristin doesn’t want her kids - Camden, eight, Jaxon, six, and Saylor, four, whom she has with her estranged husband Jay Cutler - to follow in her footsteps until they’re adults.
She said: “I think I would say, ‘When you’re 18, you can do whatever you want and I’ll, of course, support you,’ but I think it’s hard enough being a kid and especially now with social media. You know, I didn’t even have that pressure. I just want my kids to be kids. You have the rest of your life to be on TV or do whatever you want to do. I would really try to discourage it until they turn 18.”
Kristin’s three children are well aware of their mother’s reality TV career, as she admitted her former partner Jay - whom she split with earlier this year - has already shown them some episodes of ‘Laguna Beach’, much to Kristin’s dismay.
She added to Us Weekly magazine: “They have seen parts of Laguna Beach when they re-ran it a few summers ago - just a couple of minutes, because Jay put it on thinking it was really funny. Then I, of course, was cringing the whole time. When they’re older, I’m sure at some point they’ll stumble upon it, but I won’t be sitting them down saying, ‘Hey, guys. Wanna watch Mommy in high school?’ No.’ ”
The ‘True Comfort’ cookbook writer previously opened up on co-parenting with Jay since their April split, and said they’re doing their best to “make the most” of the situation.
She explained: “There’s a way to do this. Obviously, it’s not what either of us wanted, but let’s make the most of it for them. I hope that they know that it’s because we love them so much.”
Kristin and the former professional footballer player reached a custody agreement in May, giving each parent 182.5 days a year with their little ones.
