Joe Exotic has been transferred to a medical facility after being diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of cancer.
The 'Tiger King' star was taken by private plane to the Butner Federal Medical Center in North Carolina from another clinic for inmates in Fort Worth, Texas, at some point between Tuesday (16.11.21) night and Wednesday (17.11.21) morning, his attorney, John M. Phillips has confirmed.
According to the lawyer, the transfer was supposed to happen later this month and it was hoped the 58-year-old star - whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage - would be sent to Oklahoma, where he could prepare for resentencing and upcoming motions to overturn his conviction.
Nothing he last spoke to Joe on 1 November, John tweeted: "He is one of the most passionate, full of life, clients I have ever had the pleasure of representing.
"Joe informed me that his fears were true. He had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. As noted in Joe's recent statements, he has been undergoing medical treatment and tests for a host of issues.
"The PSA test is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. It was high months ago. He finally obtained biopsies. They revealed two cancerous areas. He is undergoing further testing."
John told how prison medical care “isn’t the best and justice is slow.”
He added: “It’s a competition of life and liberty no one wants any part of."
Joe announced earlier this month he had been diagnosed with cancer.
The former zoo keeper wrote on Instagram: "Update [sad face emoji] Everyone, It is with a sad face that I have to tell you the doctors called me in today to break the news that my prostate biopsy came back with an aggressive cancer, I am still waiting on the results from other test as well. (sic)"
Joe predicted that his long-time rival Carole Baskin will "have her own party" about the news.
He's also asked to be released from prison in order to seek treatment.
Joe - who was previously handed a 22-year prison sentence for 17 federal charges of animal abuse and two counts of attempted murder for hire - added: "Right now I don't want anyone's pity and I'm sure Carole Will have her own party over this! What I need is the world to be my voice to be released, they have the proof I DID NOT DO THIS! (sic)"
Joe is set to be re-sentenced because his original punishment was deemed to be excessive.
And he's now urged to be released from prison in order to get the treatment he needs.
His letter continues: "And there is no reason for the district attorney to drag this out, So I can go home and get treatment on my own or enjoy what life I have left with my loved ones! Say a prayer everyone & be my voice [sad face emoji] love #joeexotic #exclusive #breakingnews #freejoeexotic #justiceforjoeexotic. (sic)"
