Cheryl Cole was inspired to get her rose tattoo on her butt after almost dying from malaria in 2010.

The 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer made a "f**k it" list after contracting the deadly disease during a visit to Tanzania four years ago.

One of the things on her list was to get the huge flower tattoo inked across her back and backside so Cheryl took the plunge and got tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado to create the design last August.

Speaking on UK series 'The Graham Norton Show', which will air on BBC One tonight, she explained: "After I had malaria I created a 'f**k it list' because life's too short and the tattoo was on the list."

When asked about how much the inking cost, she added: "He's an exceptional artist and he was worth it ... It was in the thousands, probably the cost of a small car."

The 30 year old pop star, who has returned to 'The X Factor' this year - sat for three eight-hour sessions to get the detailed flower etched onto her skin, but recently admitted the pain was worth it because she's so happy with the design.

She said previously: "I have three tattoos, this one, one on the back of my neck and the rose. The guy that did it is a proper artist, he does oil paintings, he's unbelievably talented.

"It took about three 7 to 8-hour sessions. It was fine, I didn't get it all done in the one go and he's really amazing at what he does so it wasn't too bad."
