Christine Bleakley

British TV presenter, Christine Bleakley is set to try and crack Hollywood, if a suspected move to Los Angeles goes ahead. She told friends that she would join fiancé Frank Lampard in the move if he took up a contract offered to him by LA Galaxy. This is great timing for Christine as her contract with ITV finishes in the summer and relocating means that she can look for work in the states. As she will hope to make it big across the pond I look at some other British stars who have cracked America.

David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria are the country’s biggest celebrities. When the football ace married the pop princess in 1999 the ultimate couple was born. After eight years of marriage and taking Britain by storm, the Beckham’s waved good-bye to England and hello to LA in 2007. The move came after David signed a contract with LA Galaxy football club. During their time in America the Beckham’s profile has risen even more. They made many A-list friends including Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Eva Longoria and pictures of David modelling in Armani underwear were shown all over America. Victoria has also has success in America with her fashion line. In 2004 posh made her debut as a designer with a limited edition VB Rocks collection for US denim label, Rock and Republic. Her first appearance as a designer came four years later as her fashion line featured at New York Fashion Week, by the end of 2011 her clothing line was worth around $12million.

Simon Cowell

Simon is known as one of the world’s biggest music and entertainment moguls. Not only is he hugely popular here with shows such as the X factor and Britain’s got Talent he is also extremely famous in the US. In 2002 he landed himself a role as a judge on American Idol, which found stars such as Kelly Clarkson. He stayed at American Idol until 2010, at this time it was announced that US TV station FOX had acquired the rights to The X Factor USA, which was a version of his British talent show, the programme is now in its second series. Following the success of the Idol franchise Cowell and his company Syco developed Americas Got Talent, which aired for the first time in 2006, in which is executive producer.

Cat Deeley

Birmingham born Cat is one of the leading ladies in America when it comes to presenting. After leaving SM:TV Live in 2002, she went on to host Fame Academy and Stars In Their Eyes before moving to America in 2006. While in America she has presented So You Think You Can Dance and became the entertainment contributor for ABC News.

One Direction

Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn and Louis found fame after being put together in the band One Direction in the 2010 series of The X Factor. The boys create hysteria where ever they go, especially in the USA. In 2012 they became the first British band to have their debut album, Up All Night, reach the number one spot in the US Billboard chart. To top of the success of 2012 the boys performed a sell out show at Madison Square Garden, which received critical acclaim.

Adele

From a humble beginning to worldwide success, Adele is one of the most successful British Female singers of all time. Her debut album 19, made everyone stop and listen. However it was her eagerly anticipated second album, 21 that shot her to global superstardom and in 2012 it was the biggest selling album in America for the second year running. In 2012 she was nominated for six Grammy awards, and won them all. These included record of the year for Rolling in the Deep and album of the year for 21.

Kim Cattrall

Born in Liverpool, Kim made it big in Hollywood after landing the role as one of the four main characters in the hit TV show Sex and the City. Kim played blonde haired, man eater, Samantha in the show, which cemented her as one of the most popular British actors in America. Since the series ended in 2004, Kim has twice revived her character in two Sex and the City films.

Ed Westwick

Like Kim, Ed was born in Britain but is best known for his role in an American TV series. In 2007 he was cast as Chuck Bass in teen drama Gossip Girl. He played bad boy millionaire in the series, which ended at the end of 2012. The role won Ed numerous Teen Choice Awards including Choice TV Villain.
