It’s no secret that we Brits love a good cup of English Breakfast tea. In fact, according to recent research, for three-quarters of us, tea is the first drink of the day and the ultimate morning must-have. Sadly though, not all of us get to fulfil our daily fix in the way we would like.

In equal standing with our infamous love affair with tea, is the increasingly frenetic and hectic nature of our daily lives. We are afforded less and less time in the morning, meaning we tend to forgo those special little moments every morning. This explains why one in five of us forget to drink our teas on a daily basis, many leaving it on the side to cool, but accidentally letting it go cold and undrinkable. Nightmare!

We spotted a novel idea from Twinings English Strong Breakfast tea this week, who have come up with a clever solution to the problem. They have created a mug dubbed the “Forget-Tea-Not” (we see what they did there) that alerts drinkers when their tea has reached the perfect temperature – 96 degrees centigrade, according to the Twinings Master Blenders. The cup plays the famous Bing! Bang! Bong! Song, originally by Sophia Loren, from the Twinings advert through an inbuilt speaker at the bottom of the cup. It’s just a prototype at this stage, but we’re definitely on board with the concept, particularly the idea of making sure we never leave a cup of tea to go cold again so we get to enjoy it every morning.

With 2017 already in focus and New Year’s resolutions not too far away (boo-hiss), we thought we’d suggest some fab healthy tea excursions this winter. We love the idea of a mug that tells you when your tea is ready. But we love the idea of someone making the tea for us even more. Here are some great vegan high tea hot spots in the UK to consider.

The Ritz Hotel, London

The very name conjures up images of relaxation and sophistication. The Ritz London is the perfect place to kick back and experience some of the finest luxury teas available from around the globe. The decadent high tea spread accommodates vegans, but make sure you request the vegan menu when booking.

Tea Parlour, Liverpool

For a walk on the vintage side, Tea Parlour offers a great hang out spot if you’re in and around the Merseyside area. Look out for the coronation chickpea salad sandwiches and some other classic high tea options.

Rootcandi, Brighton

The perfect full throttle, 100% plant-based menu for staunch vegans. This wonderful eating spot in the heart of Brighton offers a sumptuous blend of sweet and savoury nibbles and some fabulous blends of classic and exotic teas. Vegans should enter without fear and confidence that upon exiting, their bellies will be full.

Casa Angelina, Edinburgh

Never been to Edinburgh? Here’s the perfect excuse. Located in one of the city’s most desirable hotels, Casa Angelina has a vast spread of vegan friendly options, with high tea sandwiches ranging from avocado and pepper to the super Americanised peanut butter and jelly classic. It is a super setting for a vegan high tea.

The Comfy Duck, Lincolnshire

This is a great option for sweet lovers. The menu boasts a fine balance of luxurious savoury treats including vegan fish fingers and chips but packs a real punch with some truly mouth-watering desserts. Vegan snickers cheesecake. Need we say more?

The Garden in Hale, Manchester

For £20 per person, this wonderful adventure into vegan afternoon tea is a price worth paying. The Garden offers a vast selection of hot tea options not to mention always colourful and eye-wateringly tasty plates of food that are sure to delight.

Titanic Belfast, Belfast

If you’re a fan of the James Cameron film of the same name (and history), this jaunty and elegant trip into the past is the ideal escape this winter. A wonderful period experience is complemented by a delicious array of sandwiches, scones and eclairs. If you’re lucky enough to be there for Christmas, they’re running a special festive afternoon tea. Quick, drop anchor and book!
