I saw this in B and M Bargains for around 30p and as I was clearly marked as vegan friendly on the back of the packet- I just had to try it out.
I have no idea how to mix spices in the right qualities to get the desired flavours and I don't have the patience to find a recipe, buy all the ingredients and mix them up, which is why these spice mixes are perfect for me.
Although it advises you to mix with yoghurt and marinade your meat overnight or for a few hours I decided to deviate. Given them I'm a vegan the meat marinating side of things was out. So I decided to make my usual chick pea curry with it. I fried an onion, added some chickpeas, then the spice so it would coat them, before adding in a tin of tomatoes.
Once that was done I popped in some vegan yoghurt and I had a much healthier version of my usual- which contains a whole jar of paste laden with oil and vegan cream which is high in fat.
As I'm on Slimming World I can make this whole dish for only a few syns, even with piles of brown rice- so it suits those who are watching their calorie intake too.
I took a chance and I was really pleased with the outcome. As I don't like my curries too hot, I only used a quarter of the packet so I still have plenty left to make it again. Cheap as chips and goes a long way- that's my kind of convenience food!
Ideal for lazy vegans, dieting vegans, vegans who love spice, vegans who prefer a hint of spice or time poor vegans- a total all-rounder.
