John Bishop turns 50 today so we celebrate his big day by highlighting all the times he has been a role model for the plant based community.
According to The Radio Times online, the comedian gave up meat after he saw a cow being slaughtered on a farm; "The cow was hanging up looking at me as if to say 'you did this" and he never looked back.
Longstanding vegetarian- Bishop has been a vegetarian for over 20 years now and promoted his lifestyle on BBC Two's Something for the Weekend and on the Johnathan Ross Show.
John Bishop's Britain- He recreated the moment where he told his mum he was a veggie in this video.
PETA- Bishop teamed up with PETA to mark National Vegetarian Week with a billboard facing Borough Market in London with the message 'Chicks love a vegetarian!'
Sexiest Vegetarians- In 2013, PETA announced that he was ranked as one of the sexiest vegetarians of the year.
Twitter- He made his twitter followers think twice when he posted a photo of some pink chicken and commented; "People ask why I am vegetarian … give me a carrot any day".
Animal Rescue- Bishop and his wife have a menagerie of rescued pets at their home in Cheshire including two English Bull Terriers, Bilko and Trigger and their pot-bellied pig Milo. He told The Mirror;
“Melanie and I share a love of animals of all shapes and sizes and foster the belief that there are so many animals who have been neglected or abused that rehoming is the only logical option.
“It makes no sense to us why anyone would breed foals, puppies or even goldfish when there are so many deserving animals who need good homes.
“I would encourage anyone who is in a position to have any animal to look at rehoming before buying.
