'Downton Abbey' star Jim Carter has predicted fans will need "two hankies" for the show's final episode.
The 67-year-old actor, who plays Mr Carson on the award-winning ITV period drama, has told ardent followers of the programme to brace themselves for a tear-jerking finale on Christmas Day.
He shared: "These characters, we say goodbye to them, but it is not final. We see them setting off on different paths.
"It is really satisfying and you will need two hankies on Christmas night."
Jim also joked about the length of time it took his on-screen character to become intimate with the head housekeeper Mrs Hughes, having kept fans on tenterhooks for years.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It took six years - tortoises mate quicker! But we got there."
Earlier this month, 'Downton' producer Gareth Neame refused to rule out the possibility of the TV programme being turned into a feature film, saying it would be a "wonderful thing".
However, he also admitted the show's bosses "don't have a script or plan as of yet".
Asked about the possibility of a 'Downton' movie, Gareth said: "We might - it's something we've talked about.
"I think a 'Downton' movie would be a wonderful thing. But we don't have a script or a plan as of yet."
