The 39-year-old star is set to co-host the annual telethon for the fourth year running, and Alex feels "honoured" to have been given the responsibility.

Alex told HELLO! magazine: "The show is so inspiring and emotional; I will call my mum straight after. It always make me so grateful for the most important people in my life."

Alex has hosted a number of TV shows over recent years, including 'The One Show' and 'Football Focus'. But the former soccer star admits that 'Children in Need' holds a special place in her heart.

She shared: "The whole evening is honestly just magical.

"It will always hold a special place in my heart - the stories from these children and the generosity of the British public never cease to amaze me."

Alex has enjoyed significant success since she made the move into the TV industry.

And the former sports star revealed that she's developed a ritual to deal with her pre-show nerves.

Alex said: "For me, it's all about the preparation. I like to make sure I'm super prepared for everything I do, to make sure I do the best job I can on the night.

"I'll be reading through the scripts and researching; I'll probably be also listening to some 90s RnB backstage to get me in the zone."

Meanwhile, Alex previously admitted to being pleasantly surprised by her own success in the TV industry.

She told the Guardian newspaper: "I pinch myself when I look at the things I’ve been working on.

"For all the people who say I’m ticking a box because I’m black and female, there are more people who have stopped me in the street to tell me to keep going and that what I’m doing is great. That gives me the energy to keep going."
