Beverley Callard admits she "completely forgot" how to play her 'Coronation Street' alter-ego Liz McDonald on her first day back on the show.
The 56-year-old actress is reprising her role as the outspoken matriarch after a two-year absence and admits she was relieved how easily the character came back to her once filming began.
She said: "On my first day I completely forgot how to play her. I couldn't remember what accent I used for her. Luckily, when I started working with Simon Gregson [who plays her on-screen son Steve], it all came back to me! After that it was like I'd never been away."
Despite her years of experience, Beverley admits she was "terrified" when she first returned to filming.
She said: "On my first day, I was terrified. When I drove in, I felt sick. It was like my first day at school."
And the actress says the show is a much nicer place to work than it was when she left.
She added to OK! magazine: "There's a busier schedule but it's somehow more relaxed. It's a very happy working environment now. Everybody feels cared for."
