He's back. The grumbling yet hilarious Mancunian - Karl Pilkington - has decided to travel the world and take on experiences from other cultures that tackles some of life's biggest topics.
“I’ve been on the planet for 40 years now, and I’m still none the wiser as to what it’s all about really.I've never worried about life’s big questions. People at my age sit about pondering about ‘why are we here?’ The only time I ever asked meself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote." Karl says of the series.
Episode one delves into the world of marriage, and before the first ad-break Karl is being set-up to wed an Indian bride in an arranged marriage.
"I thought they were just doing this for fun" he said on ITV's This Morning, before revealing the woman's father insisted they swap phone numbers and go for a coffee the day after.
He then went to work at a wedding in the integral role of making sure the groom's hat was on straight. "that's when you know an even is overstaffed!" he mused, taking more interest in the retro-looking television and sound system before being scolded by the bridegroom's mother.
Deciding he'd like to try something new, he headed to America where he took part in a pheromone pairing activity, once again being told off - this time by a potential partner who was offended that he couldn't elaborate on just why he liked the smell of her shirt.
Vegas opened his eyes to the way of the drive-thru wedding. "It's just like McDonald's" he observed, stating that if he were to ever get married, this is how he'd want it to be done.
His final act saw him bring together a partnership in a launderette - his pheromone-influenced idea where the bride and groom exchanged dirty laundry, taking in a big sniff and finally washing the clothes together, representing the union of their marriage.
He's still funny, there's no doubt about that, but without Gervais or Merchant there to push him to his very limits, there's definitely something missing.
However, he still manages to bring enough charisma and intense personality to ensure viewers will sit through an hour of the show.
In short - it shouldn't be missed regardless.
