The second series of Endeavour is coming to ITV later this year, with Shaun Evans returning in the lead role of young Morse, with Roger Allam as senior Detective Inspector Fred Thursday.

The prequel to Inspector Morse will comprise of four two hour minute films; Trove, Nocturne, Sway and Neverland - all of which are written by acclaimed screenwriter and Morse contributor Russell Lewis.

Set in 1966, Trove sees Morse have to deal with the aftershocks of his own brush with death, four months on from being shot hoping the Medical Examiner will clear him and declare him fit enough to return to work.

The question troubling Fred Thursday however is whether or not he is fully restored in mind as well as body.

"He comes back a far more damaged person." says Shaun Evans.

"He's a bit lost in his grief. He's also still questioning himself, thinking 'am I any good? Was the last solved crime a fluke?'"

That is one aspect of Morse that is to be explored throughout this series, as well as of course the unsettling and haunting cases that are presented to him in the year of a memorable sporting event.

Anton Lesser, Sean Rigby and Jack Laskey also star, as well as James Bradshaw, Abigail Thaw, Caroline O'Neill, Sara Vickers, Jack Bannon and Shvorne Marks.
