The Lakeside Hotel and Spa were suffering from a power cut when we arrived, however we were greeted calmly and promptly at reception and taken through to the spa area by Jennifer, who knew us by first name, which was a welcomed personal touch. Jennifer passed us over to the two therapists that were going to be giving us the treatments, Stacey and Danielle.
We were given a sheet to fill in with any medical history that might affect which treatment we could have and then shown to the room. The whole process was very professionally delivered.
Luckily, the spa treatment rooms are normally lit by candle only and so we were not hindered by having a lack of lighting. The senior therpaist, Stacey, was very informative when I asked her questions about the full body massage I was receiving and how regular massage helps the body. She engaged in an open friendly conversation with me throughout and struck a rapport with me as soon as we began talking.
The Spa itself was lit by emergency lighting so we were still able to use the pool, which looked out onto the lake through large floor to ceiling windows. The changing rooms were impeccably clean and towels, shampoo and body wash were provided for getting ready after a quick dip. There were also free lockers provided to store your belongings in.
Towards the end of our time in the pool the electricity came back on and we were able to use the Jacuzzi and the steam room, which were in easy access of the pool.
After our treatments, we had our lunch in the conservatory overlooking Lake Windermere. As the kitchen were unable to prepare anything cooked due to the power cut, we were still offered soup and sandwiches. I asked or salad, which was not on the menu, however the staff prepared this for me at my request. The meals were plentiful and well-presented and were served quickly along with our drinks. Although it was raining on the day we visited, the views were spectacular from the conservatory, overlooking the lake and we could see the Lakes cruises travelling from the loading point by the Lake Aquarium and steam railway. Everything was in easy access of the hotel for those stuck for something to do with their stay.
Despite the difficulties that the staff were faced with on the day we went, they were all poised and efficient. Not one member of staff let the issue affect their performance and their attitude towards the guests when other may have struggled.
The spa is a must if you are staying at the hotel or nearby in the Graythwaite Cottages, as this is only a ten mute drive from the site.
The spa is the perfect way to spend a wet and windy day, enjoying the heat and the relaxation of this area of the hotel whatever the weather is like outside.
