Thandie Newton's daughters find her fame "irritating".
The 42-year-old actress - who has girls Ripley, 14, and Nico, 10, and son Booker, 11 months, with husband Ol Parker - is relieved her kids are not dazzled by her celebrity status and they accept she is a different person when she is working to when she is at home.
Asked what her daughters think of her fame, she said: "It irritates them, which I think is very healthy.
"They are very aware that a lot of what I do, like walking down the red carpet, is just an illusion and I don't take the mask home with me, so they know who I am.
"I talk to them a lot about not wanting to be famous just for the sake of it, but having a rewarding, satisfying job, and they seem to understand that fame is just a by-product."
The 'Crash' star admitted it can be "horrible" when she is approached for autographs and pictures while she is out with her family, but still is always obliging if the fans are "nice".
She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: "It can be a bit weird. The other day I was out with Ripley and somebody wanted a photo with me.
"It's a horrible thing to say to my daughter in the middle of a conversation, 'Honey can you just step over there while I do this?'
"But I judge it by the situation and these people seemed incredibly nice so I did it. Afterwards Ripley said, 'They seemed nice', so she gets it."
