Artist: Iggy Azalea
Single: Work
Artist: Mercury Records
OUT NOW
Rating: 3/5
Hot off the heels of signing with Mercury Records rap’s newest star Iggy Azalea releases her debut single Work.
Azalea grabbed everyone’s attention back in 2011 when she released her mixtape Ignorant Art and Work is the first single to be lifted for the Aussie’s debut album The New Classic - which will be released later this year.
The opening to Work sees Azalea rapping over a beautiful piano - two elements that go together well before the beat really kicks in.
There is a real swagger to this track and Azalea’s vocal and she has a real confidence in her vocal as well as song-writing skills.
I found the backing track just a little bit too over produced and it does detract from the vocal - which is a bit of a shame.
The strongest part of the track is the beginning when it was a stripped back and all you have was Azalea’s vocal and a piano.
It is a sound that you don’t really expect and she really should have pushed forward with this rather than going down the slightly overproduced sound that she has.
It is not hard to see why there is so much excitement surrounding this artist as this is a slick sounding track with Azalea on top form.
Iggy Azalea - Work is out now.
