The wait for fans may have been excruciating, but with the release of New Kids On The Block’s brand new EP ‘Thankful’ it was clearly worth it as the iconic five-piece return with five sleek and infectious tracks. Unafraid to fall back on their previous sound whilst also bringing contemporary themes in, such as the rap included on ‘Still Sounds Good’, the group sound better than ever.

Whilst many will be disappointed to only get their hands on a collection of five songs, it’s just the right amount to whet the appetites of those who have been looking for new NKOTB material for some time. This is pure pop and exactly what we needed to hear from the group in order to maintain their relevance in an ever-evolving world of music.

Titular track ‘Thankful’ sounds like it could blitz through the student nightclubs of the UK, or storm its way up the charts. Personal favourite ‘Still Sounds Good’ has the perfect title for a group who are proving they’re still exactly where they belong in this industry.

Powerful vocal performances are layered across beautifully produced tracks and allow Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Jonathan and Jordan Knight and Danny Wood to cement their status as some of the most memorable musicians of their era. Unafraid to be bold with their music decisions, we should celebrate the likes of New Kids On The Block for pushing music in an altogether different direction than the one they’re used to.

New Kids On The Block release their new EP ‘Thankful’ tomorrow, Friday May 12, 2017.
