Great Cynics released their debut album back in 2011 and the band is back with their new record Like I Belong.
And the band has come a long way in the last twelve years as you can really hear a maturity in their sound as well as in their song writing.
Queen of the Anarchists is the opening track on the record and it is one of the most infectious tracks on the record not to mention it has a great energy.
It seems the band really has found their identity and this is punk rock at its very best - it really is a record that you cannot help but get swept along with.
In My Hand is the first single to be lifted from the record and it is a track that is packed with catchy hooks and explosive chorus.
Giles Bidder is one great form vocally throughout the whole album and he has a real power to his voice - a voice that really has developed since the release of the last record.
Like I Belong is the first album to heavily feature bass player Iona Cairns and we also get to hear her vocals on Waster.
This does give the band a more delicate sound but Cairns really does have a great punk voice and Waster just adds something a little bit different to the record.
But the band mix and match their sound as Kingsland Roaches and Younger Than Everyone are a little heavier than the rest of the tracks on the record and it is great to see the band is not afraid to try new things with their sound.
One thing that is present throughout the whole album is this infectious energy that makes you want to jump and dance around from start to finish.
Great Cynics have clearly had a ball making this album and that really comes through in the music as the guitars really do drive every track forward.
Like I Belong is a terrific second album from Great Cynics and they really are on the road to big things.
