Marva Wright

Blues singer Marva Wright has died at the age of 62.

The star passed away on Tuesday after suffering complications following a 2009 stroke.

Last June Wright stepped off stage at the CoCo Club in New Orleans, Louisiana when she felt unwell and began slurring her speech.

The singer didn't start singing professionally until she was 40, but she went on to perform internationally with her band the BMWs. A statement on Wright's website reads, "At 6am this morning, Marva suffered another stroke and passed away. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, friends & loved ones. Information about services will be made available soon."

She is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild, according to her website.
