Rapper JADAKISS played a concert in Southern Africa on Saturday night even after protests from members of a youth group urged fans to boycott the gig.
The hip-hop star performed in Swaziland in aid of the Prince Lidani Foundation, an organization named after the country's King Maswati III.
Members of the Swaziland Youth Congress, a banned opposition group, had urged people to boycott the gig in protest against the king. Jadakiss refused to call off the show, and the event went ahead despite demonstrations from the group, but the turnout at the gig was affected and less than 500 people attended, according to the AFP.
Swaziland Youth Congress spokesman Mxolisi Nghamphalala has since hailed the protest a success, saying, "We have no problem with Jadakiss personally, we have a problem with taxpayers' money being used to organize activities of this kind. Jadakiss performed and he got his money."
King Mswati III has been criticized by many of the world leaders for his polygomy, expensive taste and spending the countries money on his own personal affairs. Swaziland, is the poorest in the country and the King has used controversial methods to curb issues such as the Aids virus, where he banned women from under 18 from having sex. This contradicted his marriage to a 17 year old girl soon after he made the decision.
The King will be attending the Royal Wedding this Friday, and staying at the Dorchester Hotel.
