Damien McFly is one of the world's most promising young stars, with a brilliant talent and the will to share it with the world.
Female First caught up with Damien to chat all things music, his career, what the future holds and much more. Read on to find out what he had to say.
For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?
I think my sound is a blend between the folk harmonies and the modern pop and rock vocal melodies.
What challenges have you faced in the music industry so far?
I'm trying to be as independent as possible for the moment. I received many proposals from labels but maybe I just haven't found the right one yet.
How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?
Nothing is really easy when you try to avoid talent shows, which can give you a big exposure just after an audition. I like to cover songs with my own sound in order to reach as many people as possible and involve them in my original music.
How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?
Right now it's the most important thing for me. I'm a soung engineer too, so after writing all the songs I followed all the recording and mixing process.
Where do you draw influence and inspiration from for your work?
In the last few years I travelled a lot, so I guess my inspiration comes both from everyday problems and the constant wish to escape and see the world. My music is influenced by artists such as Mumford and Sons, Ben Howard and Tom Odell.
If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?
I'd love to collaborate with one of the artists that influence me, or with someone who can give new original elements to my music.
Tell us a random, funny fact about you that not many people know.
When I was in high school I wrote a love line of one of my songs on the school wall just to go out with a girl. I went out with her, just one time...
Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?
The best goal for me would be to have a world tour booked. I love to be on the road and meet new people.
Where do you hope to be this time next year?
I hope to be performing in some big festivals across the world.
What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?
I'm coming to the UK for some shows at the end of July. Soon I will announce the release date of the album plus some European dates.
'I Can't Reply' is released July 13 via Ferrari Records. Keep up-to-date with Damien on Twitter @Damien_McFly
