Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake unleashes his latest album The 20/20 Experience (make sure to read our 20/20 Experience review) and as we’re positively hopping up and down with excitement, we thought we’d look over his discography and decide on our favourite Justin Timberlake tracks.

8) Señorita

Beautifully simple in its construction, Señorita is bright and breezy track that just makes us what the next flight to Havana and get a cocktail in our hands. Despite the slightly dodgy crowd section at the end, this still a funky and infectious track that made us all fall in love with JT.

7) Hold The Wall

This is Timbaland at his most bizarre, but it works brilliantly, creating brilliantly evocative track that feels darker and more dangerous than anything Timberlake’s made before. Filled with exotic, rapid fire vocals and a beat that can’t help but get you moving, Hold The Wall is a track that shows that Timberlake can still mix it with the best of them when it comes to pop.

6) Mirrors

We all know that Justin’s in a great place right now emotionally following his marriage to Jessica Biel. This song could quite happily double as a set of wedding vows, as it’s a sweeping statement of adoration and love that might as well get down on one knee itself.

From the chorus of guitars at the songs beginning to the quiet and tender ending, this is a love song that manages the impossible of combining gushing sentiment into an un-sickly package.

5) What Goes Around…Comes Around

That the song was every bit as epic as the Scarlett Johansson starring video, this is a song that makes the absolute most out of Timberlake’s falsetto vocals with a wonderfully sweeping melody that constantly builds into a fantastically romantic whirlwind.

 4) SexyBack

After he started working more with Timbaland, we didn’t know what would become of Timberlake, but SexyBack proved that he was not only in safe hands, but he was transforming into a far darker and seductive artists than we ever truly thought that the curly haired crooner out of N*Sync  could turn out to be following his split from the band.

3) Cry Me A River

The song that proved to everyone that Timberlake was more than just a pretty face and some impressive dance moves, Cry Me A River is a timeless track that was easily the standout song from his debut solo album. Deep, bitter and timeless, Cry Me A River sounds just as fresh today as it did more than a decade ago upon its release.

2) Blue Ocean Floor

Perhaps the most grown up track Timberlake’s recorded, this small scale, stripped back and raw song is the highlight of his new album and a wonderful way to close out a record that simply reaffirms why Timberlake needs to put the full weight of his considerable creative muscles to the world of music.

1) LoveStoned

Combining the sexy and tender sides of Timberlake in one incredible bundle, LoveStoned is the best track that Timberlake’s ever recorded. The transition between ‘Love Stoned’ and ‘I Think That She Knows’ is still perhaps the greatest thing that Timberlake has yet to record. This is how you make an epic pop record everyone, start taking notes.

That this was actually hidden from the radio edit of the song, which instead focussed on the sexy opening section to the song, is perhaps the greatest reward ever for people who embarked on the full album version of the track.
