Sandra Bullock says that she was drawn to Gravity because of director Alfonso Cuarón.
Bullock is back on the big screen later this year in the new sci-fi epic and was already a big fan of Cuaron's work before she joined this project.
Speaking to HitFix the actress said: "Because of Alfonso and his work before I don't think there is anyone else I think I would have had the balls to step in and do it with because my desire to work with him was so strong.
"And after meeting him as a human being I went, 'I can't believe this person I sort of idolised turned out to be an extraordinary human being'. Usually you're disappointed. We let people down a lot."
Bullock is joined by fellow Oscar winner George Clooney on the cast list for a movie that has been whipping up a storm of the festival circuit.
Bullock plays an astronaut who, along with Clooney, gets stranded in space after a spacewalk goes wrong.
Gravity is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender, and the movie is set to be a huge hit when it is released later this autumn.
Gravity is released 8th November.
