Black Panther is one of the new Marvel franchises that is on the horizon... however, no director for the movie has yet been announced.

Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay was the front runner earlier this year before walking away from the project. F. Gary Gray was another names that was linked to the film but has since been announced as the director for Fast & Furious 8.

Coogler grabbed everyone's attention back in 2013 when he directed Fruitvale Station, which told the true story of Oscar Grant III who was fatally shot by police in 2009.

The movie went on to be a critical success and won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013.

Coogler is set to return to the director's chair next year with his second feature Creed, which will see him team up with Sylvester Stallone and reunite with Michael B. Jordan. Stallone will reprise the role of Rocky Balboa who starts to train Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed.

While Coogler is believed to be in talks for the director job on Black Panther, there is no word on how far along the talks have gone.

Chadwick Boseman is set to take on the title role and we will see this character for the first time in Captain America: Civil War next year. Andy Serkis is also set to be on the cast list.

Black Panther is released 6th July 2018 and filming is set to get underway next year.
