Florence Foster Jenkins is one of the May movies that I am looking forward to the most as it sees Oscar-winner Meryl Streep return in the title role.
Streep is a favourite here at FemaleFirst and we are looking forward to seeing her take on another real-life role. And Steep stars in one of a trio of fantastic new character posters:
Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg also feature on the posters as they take on the roles of Florence's husband St Clair Bayfield and her piano accompanist Cosme McMoon.
The trio is joined on the cast list by Rebecca Ferguson, Neve Gachev, John Kavanagh, and Nina Arianda.
Florence Foster Jenkins marks the return of Stephen Frears to the director's chair as he teams up with Streep for the first time.
Frears has brought us movies such as Philomena, Cheri, Tamara Drewe, and The Queen in recent years but this is his first feature since The Program last year. As you can see, he is no stranger to the biopic genre and I can't wait to see what he delivers with this latest film.
Florence Foster Jenkins tells the inspirational true story of the eponymous New York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The film celebrates the human spirit, the power of music and the passion of amateurs everywhere.
The voice Florence (Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world it was hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield (Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give her first public concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, St Clair realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.
Florence Foster Jenkins is released 6th May.
