Daniel Bruhl has revealed that he had to go through seven hours of make-up for his role in Rush.
The actor takes on the role of Niki Lauda in Ron Howard's Formula 1 biopic - which hit the big screen earlier this month.
Bruhl had to wear prosthetics to portray his character after he suffered burns to the face after a racing accident.
Speaking to E! News, he said: "The first time, I think I fell asleep because it took six to seven hours. When I woke up it was shocking, really shocking."
And the actor admits that the way he looked after make-up had a huge impact on the other members of the cast.
"The shocking experience was sometimes I would go on set and there were extras who didn't realise it was prosthetic make-up and they were afraid when they looked at me. That made me understand what Niki had gone through."
The movie sees Bruhl team up with Chris Hemsworth for the film as the Aussie actor plays driver James Hunt.
The pair were the fiercest of rivals and helped shape Formula 1 into what it is today.
Rush marks the return of Ron Howard to the director's chair for the first time since Dilemma.
Rush is out now.
