Alfonso Cuaron

Alfonso Cuaron says it was the mix of tension and suspense with an emotional story that really drew him to Gravity.

Cuaron penned the screenplay with his son Jonas, but it was Jonas who came to him with the original idea.

Speaking on the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival the director said it was the chance to mix all of these elements that was of huge interest for him.

Gravity is the most talked about movie of the autumn as it has been winning over audiences and critics on the festival circuit.

Cuaron and Sandra Bullock were on the red carpet in London on Thursday night to promote the movie, which is featuring in the American Airline Gala at the festival.

The movie marks the first time that Cuaron has worked with Oscar winning actress Bullock: who gives a terrific central performance in the film.

Cuaron is not stranger to the sci-fi genre having been behind the big screen adaptation of Children of Men back in 2006.

Gravity is released 8th November.
