Michael Patrick King admits that Sex and the City 2 is not as fashion themed as the first movie.

The director brings together Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon for a second big screen outing this week.

The movie comes two years after the first enjoyed huge box office success, holding it's own against the blockbuster such as Iron Man and Prince Caspian.

King worked on the TV series as well as directing the first film and he reveals that fashion is not the focus of the film with less branding.

In an interview with Metro he said: "There are a lot of really interesting inventions. There's not much branding - the last movies was labels and love - while this there's a lot of reinventing, a lot of vintage, turning shirts into jackets.

"People will take colour from this movie, and the flowing lines. There are a lot of hats and a lot of wrapping things - so much gold, and it's very hot."

Sex and the City 2 is set to be a big success over the summer and the director believes that show is so popular because it still reaches out to the single woman.

"We were the voice of the single girl at a time when society wanted girls to get married, and if they weren't settled with children they were like lepers.

"And the reason 'Sex and the City' has continued to be popular is because we've been daring enough to let it evolve and not let it freeze."

Sex and the City 2 is released 28th May
