Paul Bettany has never had anyone confront him about the religious roles he has played in recent years.
The actor is back next year in Priest, the trailer was premiered at Comic Con in San Diego last week, which follows a priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
The role follows on from The Da Vinci Code and Legion earlier this year and the actor admits that he has played all these religions roles by accident.
Speaking at Comic Con the actor said: "I will never make another movie on it, only on the grounds that I field so many questions on it. Simply there is no theme at work. It's just coincidence.
"It's even all the way back to Da Vinci Code. I've just been doing it for so long now, I'm like, 'what am I doing? I've got to stop' because there's no answer and the controversy is entirely created by me on this side and you on that side because I've never ever had anybody from any church come up to me and say, 'I'm really angry about what you...'
"It's never happened and yet I've had to talk about it for years."
Directed by Scott Charles Stewart, Priest brings together a great cast of Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Stephen Moyer and Christopher Plummer.
Bettany has also completed work on Margin Call with Kevin Spacey and Jeremy Iron and The Tourist with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
Priest is released in 2011.
