Martin Freeman has described Bilbo Baggins’ evolution as a challenge.
The British actor has taken over the role of Bilbo Baggins as Peter Jackson takes us back to Middle Earth with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
And Freeman reveals that he and Jackson worked hard on the development of the character and that it is a very long process over the three movies.
Speaking to Empire the actor said: “Pete and I would have these conversations of, ’Well is he at this place yet? Is he going to be scared of that thing? Isn’t he sort of use to it by now?’
“I was always chomping at the bit to play something a bit more serious, a bit more tortured and dark, and he would always be reigning me in: ’We’re not there yet.’
“It’s a long journey. He changes. Something reflected in his dishevelled state.”
Freeman takes over the role of Bilbo from Ian Holm, who will also be seen in the movie, while Ian McKellan, Richard Armitage and Cate Blanchett are just some of the other names on the cast list.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
