Johnny Depp

Carol Channing has given Johnny Depp her blessing to play her if a biopic of the singer and actress ever made it to the big screen.

Depp revealed last month at a press conference in London to promote Public Enemies that he would like to play the part of Channing because 'in the digital age you can do anything'.

Speaking to The Advocate Channing said: "I imagine, when or if Johnny should portray me, he will succeed.

"Because a true artist, such as himself, is one who loves his or her creation and therefore represents their honest view of that which they are creating."

"I think he is a gifted performer and I would be very proud, as well as interested, in seeing what his vision of me would be."

Depp has had no shortage of off the wall roles in his career from Edward Scissorhands to filmmaker Ed Wood.

After finding critical and box office success with gangster movie Public Enemies earlier this summer Depp will next team up with Tim Burton for the adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

The Oscar nominated actor will star in the movie as the Mad Hatter. He will also reprise the role of Jack Sparrow for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which is expected to begin shooting next spring.
