Brad Pitt has admitted that he was cautious about taking on the role in The Tree of Life because of his children.
The actor teams up with director Terrence Malick for the new movie, which is being screened in Cannes this week, in which he plays an authoritative parent.
And Pitt hopes that his kids will be able to tell the difference between the character than he plays in the movie and him as a father.
Speaking to People at the Cannes Film Festival the actor said: "I think about everything I do now my kids are going to see [my films] when they grow up and how are they going to feel.
"But they know me as a dad and I hope they'll just think of me as a pretty damn good actor."
The Tree of Life is the first movie for Pitt since the Oscar nominated Inglourious Basterds - although he did lend his voice to animation movie Megamind.
But the actor has plenty of projects in the pipeline and has already completed work on Moneyball, Cogan's Trade as well as lending his voice to Happy Feet 2.
