Jeff Wadlow

Jeff Wadlow

Jeff Wadlow is a director that everyone needs to keep an eye on over the next couple of years as he is on the cusp of becoming a real movie-making star.

This week he is back in the director's chair as he takes over the helm for Kick Ass 2; a movie that hit the big screen three years after the first.

Wadlow did take on some minor acting roles at the beginning of his career before making the move into directing and writing.

His directing debut came in 2002 with the short, The Tower of Babble. He stayed with shorts for his next couple of projects, Manual Labour and Catching Kringle, before making the leap into feature film.

That feature film directorial debut came in 2005 when he wrote and directed Cry_Wolf.

Released in 2006 the horror movie followed a group of teenagers that like playing games of lies. But when they come face to face with terror, no one knows who is telling the truth.

While the movie did struggle with the critics it went to make over $15 million at the box office; easily making back its $1 million budget.

The movie may not have been a huge success, but Wadlow's feature film directing career was up and running.

He returned to the director's chair in 2008 with Never Back Down, a screenplay that was penned by Chris Hauty.

Starring Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet, the movie follows a rebellious teen as he is lured into the world of mixed martial arts.

But it has not been all about directing for Wadlow in the last few years as she has penned screenplays for Prey as well as TV projects The Odds and Bates Motel.

He is back in the director's chair this week with comic book film Kick Ass 2; which is once again based on the comics by Mark Millar.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.

Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire - leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own.

With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad.

Kick Ass 2 is set to be one of the best movies of the summer, as well as the biggest film of Wadlow's directing career so far.

His work on Kick Ass 2 has grabbed the attention of Mark Millar, who is currently working with Sony.

Wadlow has been brought on board the X-Force project by Miller to help pen the screenplay; if he will actually direct the movie is unknown at the moment.

It seems that Wadlow is set for bigger and better things over the next couple of years, and Kick Ass 2 is going to be the start of that success.

Kick Ass 2 is out now.
