Gemma Arterton in Song For Marion

Gemma Arterton in Song For Marion

Gemma Arterton is back on the big screen this week in Song For Marion and it kicks off what is a very busy year for the actress.

It's been a while since we have seen her in a film but she has been working on a whole host of projects - all of which we are going to see throughout 2013.

Song For Marion kicks it all off as she teams up with director Paul Andrew Williams - who has been behind London To Brighton and The Cottage.

A truly terrific cast has been assembled for the movie as Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Vanessa Redgrave, Christopher Eccleston and Anne Reid are all set to star.

Song for Marion is a comedic drama about grumpy pensioner Arthur (Stamp) who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion (Redgrave) to join a highly unconventional local choir.

But what is so great about Arterton's 2013 is that we don't see her in the same film twice as she mixes and matches different genres.

Next week she teams up with Jeremy Renner for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

If you think you know the story of Hansel & Gretel then think again as director Tommy Wirkola sets the tale years after the well known story.

The new film follows Hansel and Gretel as they hunt down and kill witches in what is set to be an exciting and rather violent film.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has already topped the U.S. box office and that success looks set to continue.

The Arterton film of 2013 that I am really looking forward to is Byzantium as she teams up with Saoirse Ronan.

This fantasy film sees Arterton and Ronan play vampires who are mother and daughter and on the run from their past.

The vampire film has become a little tired of late but Byzantium promises to be a completely different movie than we have seen in this genre in recent years.

The movie is based on the play by Moira Buffini and sees Neil Jordan is in the director's chair.

This is the first film for Jordan since Ondine back in 2009 after he has worked in TV on The Borgias.

Runner Runner is the last film that we will see Arterton in this year - released in September - as she teams up with Ben Affleck.

But it is not all about promoting movies for Arterton this yeas as she has a string of projects in the pipeline to film including Mystery White Boy, The Wright Girls and Absolutely Anything.

Song For Marion is out now.
