Legend of the Guardians; the Owls of Ga’Hoole is the latest animal animation to hit our cinemas, coming out in 3D this Friday 22nd October. 

From visionary director Zach Snyder, this beautifully shot family film tells the tale of young owlet Soren (Jim Sturgess) and his friends as they try and escape the grasp of a group of evil owls led by Queen Nyra (Helen Mirren). 
Soren and his friends are not the only animals to show bravery on the big screen. 

Be it real or animated, animals have always played a big part in the movies.  Here are some of our favourite creatures to grace our screens.

Simba - The Lion King

This brave lion is forced into exile when his uncle Scar frames him for his father's death. After a worry-free life in the jungle with new friends Timone and Pumba, Simba is thrown back into reality when he leanrs Scar has taken over the Pride Lands and is forcing the smaller animals to starve. 

Simba must face his fears and stand up to Scar in order to claim back the kingdom that is rightfully his.

Nemo and Marlin - Finding Nemo

After Nemo is taken from his coral reef home his hypochondriac, worrier dad Marlin ventures out in to the open sea to try and find him. 

Befriending other fish, turtles, seagulls and even sharks on his way, fish don’t come much braver than this father and son duo. 

Mumble - Happy Feet

In the world of Emperor Penguins soul mates are discovered through the power of song.  When Mumble is born he can’t sing; he does however have another special talent... He can dance!

Ridiculed by his peers, Mumble is cast out.  It’s only when he meets some very different penguins he realises that he’s not an outcast after all and heads home to prove his worth.

Bambi - Bambi

After the traumatic death of his mother, Bambi is forced to learn the skills he needs to survive in the forest.  He makes friends with the other animals of the forest and even finds love.

One day, however, the hunters come, and Bambi must learn to be as brave as his father if he is to lead the other deer to safety.

Willy - Free Willy

After being separated from his parents, Willy is forced to live in a tiny enclosure at the local marina. Befriended by young boy Jesse, Willy learns to perform tricks and bring in a crowd. 

However when Willy refuses to perform, the owner of the marina plans to kill Willy for the insurance money.  In order to escape Willy must be brave and perform like he never has before.

Babe - Babe

Babe is a little pig who doesn't quite know his place in the world.  With a bunch of odd friends, and a dog he calls 'mom', Babe realises that he has the makings to become the greatest sheep pig of all time. 

After ridicule from  the farmyard, brave Babe realises that if he believes in himself he can be whatever he wants to be.

Pongo and Perdi - 101 Dalmatians

After their puppies are stolen by Cruella De Vil, Pongo and Perdi set off on a mission to find them. With the help of other dogs and animals around the city they not only find their puppies but 99! 

Can this brave duo rescue all of the pups and get their revenge before Cruella turns them into her new coat?

Hedwig - Harry Potter

Hedwig has not only provided Harry with messages and packages throughout his time at Hogwarts but is also one of his most loyal companions.  She fully understands Harry and vice versa. 

Hedwig is always at Harry’s side no matter what the danger and strives to protect him and his friends at all cost.

Legend of the Guardians; the Owls of Ga’Hoole is released 22nd October.
